SINGAPORE BROADBAND PROVIDER 1-NET JOINS DIGITAL ISLAND’S PRIVATE CONTENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

1-Net Signs Agreement with Digital Island to Help Singaporean Companies “Go Global” Faster and Easier Through Open Content Peering

SAN FRANCISCO and SINGAPORE, 2 October, 2001 – Digital Island, Inc., a Cable & Wireless company (LSE: CW; NYSE: CWP), today announced 1-Net, the broadband exchange of Singapore, has joined Digital Island’s Footprint® Private Content Exchange (PCX) program.

By joining Digital Island’s Footprint PCX program, 1-Net is content peering with one of the world’s leading global content delivery networks. Without building out its network infrastructure, 1-Net is now able to provide hosting customers with increased performance, reliability and security of their Web sites, as well as expand their Internet presence worldwide both quickly and cost-effectively.
“We are operating in a highly competitive market and we are always looking to add value to our existing service offerings,” said Mock Pak Lum, CEO, 1-Net Singapore. “By content peering with Digital Island's Footprint network, our hosting customers are able to reliably deliver streaming, dynamic and static content into more than 35 countries – up to 10 times faster than before.”

“1-Net clearly understands the value of our content peering model and the value it brings to its customers and their end users,” said Matthew Sturgess, regional manager of corporate development in Asia-Pacific, Digital Island. “Singaporean companies create compelling multimedia content with strong international appeal but often experience difficulty maintaining high-quality transmission overseas due to the somewhat erratic performance of the public Internet. By placing content on Digital Island’s Footprint network, end users will see significant improvements in performance and reliability, as well as vastly increased speed for software downloads.”

Digital Island brings a network of 2,550 connected carrier-grade servers deployed across 262 content delivery locations in 35 countries. The Footprint open architecture is currently deployed in more than 300 telecommunications and ISP networks including many top-tier broadband Internet service providers in Asia, North America and Europe such as Excite@Home, RoadRunner, KPN Qwest, HiNet, Korea Thrunet and WebTV.

The Footprint PCX program accommodates service providers that need to operate a regional content delivery network and want to leverage Digital Island’s global reach when a request for content is made outside of their network presence. PCX incorporates Digital Island’s NextEdge™ initiative, plus patented and patent-pending technologies, including Best Distributor Selection. Content peering links multiple service providers’ content delivery networks by using a mutually agreed upon protocols to facilitate interoperability.
